Description

This course is designed to provide students with a broad overview of American history to 1877. The course explores the major social and political themes that have shaped the nation from pre-European contact to the era known as the Reconstruction following the Civil War. The class
combines traditional topics with new scholarship covering social and cultural developments that have shaped the lives of the entire spectrum of the American people. In other words, this course looks at history from the bottom up as well as from the top down. This course may be taken to satisfy the general education Humanities requirement. Prerequisite: C or better in ENG-109 or permission of the instructor.
