Description

This intermediate writing workshop will build upon, extend, and strengthen the skills and knowledge of craft and form students learned in ENG 204, Beginning Creative Nonfiction Writing. In a workshop, students write essays and submit them to their instructor and classmates who will carefully read and prepare written responses to the work. During class, the instructor will lead thorough discussions of each essay submission. The purpose of this discussion will be to identify successful aspects of the draft and to provide suggestions for improving elements of the draft that might require attention. All of this will be done with the understanding that writing an effective essay is the result of a long process of revising and refining. The ultimate goal of the workshop is to provide strategies for revision. By the end of the semester, students will have not only written three essays, but will have read, considered, and, in effect, “rewritten” their classmates’ essays as well. As a result, s
