Description

Nanotechnology is emerging as a new frontier in science explorations and manipulation. With the rapidly growing field of nanotechnology, there has been a pressing need to teach non-science undergraduate majors how to critically interpret science. This course introduces students to concepts in chemistry and biology through the lens of relatable nanotechnology applications, including electronics, medicine, biotechnology, materials science, and engineering. I plan to equip my students with the specific skills and knowledge in the study and control of matter at atomic or near-atomic scales. I will discuss different tools and techniques (both at the experimental and theoretical levels) that are being used in the field, and where these technologies are headed. The multidisciplinary nature of this field does not allow for a complete discussion on the topic, however students will be familiar with key concepts and state of the art research in the areas of scanning probe microscopy, nanoparticle
