Description
Analytical chemistry is the science of obtaining, processing, and communicating information about the composition and structure of matter. In other words, it is determining what matter is and how much of it exists. As a preparation for premedical school, CHEM-3250C is a combined lecture/laboratory course that is an introduction to analytical chemistry. The lectures will begin with a discussion of experimental error, including the use of statistical analysis. Other topics include fundamentals of chemical measurement in chemistry, tools of analytical chemistry, chemical equilibria, acid-base equilibria, oxidation-reduction equilibria, and quantitative laboratory technique. Electrochemistry will be covered in connection with the discussion of oxidation-reduction equilibria and applications of oxidation/reduction titrations. The lecture will be followed by discussion, problem-solving, quizzes, and lab. The laboratory component of the course will help students familiarize with different ins
